AMBASSADOR KENNEDY KIBORO

12/1/2015

Hello everyone, my name is Kennedy Kiboro. Born in Kenya, I moved to sunny Southern California at 10 years old. Sunny southern California has been a beautiful place to grow up in; the sunny weather and beautiful beaches, what's not to love. I wouldn't be the person that I was today though if it wasn't for those first years I lived in Kenya. I owe my strong work ethic and traditional values I hold dear to my first years living in Kenya. I've been blessed to be able to visit since I left and every time I come back not only missing-- but appreciating and loving Kenya that much more. I mean, it's Kenya-- what's not to love.

I help and motivate people to be the best version of themselves by teaching an active and healthy lifestyle. I founded Uzima Fitness Training a little more than two years ago. I use the profits from Uzima Fitness to invest back into my other business ventures. I own a street-wear clothing brand, Afriken Clothing Co. The shirts worn by last year's contestants were part of Afriken Clothing. The point of my clothing company is to make trendy, affordable streetwear for those who who want to display their love for Kenya.

I was diagnosed as HIV positive at 10 years old. April 2016, I'll be 25 years old. With the best healthcare in the world being made available to me, along with an active and healthy lifestyle-- my HIV load is now virtually undetectable. I am lucky that my diagnosis does not impact my day-to-day life. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many others in the world; specifically, those in Kenya. Had I never left Kenya, had I been diagnosed in Kenya, my story may be drastically different. Quality of life should not be determined by luck. The determining factor for access to modern healthcare should not rely on one's location. This is why my charity of choice is Tumiani International.

The Charity:
Tumaini has a a walk-in medical clinic that provides treatment for Kenyan children, especially those who are HIV-positive or battling with AIDS. The medical clinic also serves the surrounding communities with initial screening and treatment of illness and injuries and includes an onsite pharmacy and lab. Their goal is to expand the facility to a full service hospital in the near future. Currently, Tumaini is in the process of raising money to convert one of the clinics to a full functioning hospital. This is where I will donate my proceeds from Face of Kenya.
