My name is Sheila Kipkemoi. I am 23 years old and my platform will focus on promoting early screening of cancer among young adults and sorting treatment in advance. This is my 4th year from the time I was declared cancer free and it has in deed served as an eye opener for me concerning many things. I grew up in a humble background where the word cancer meant as a death sentence and that maybe only herbal medicine could prolong life of the victim (it could be true to some extent). In the recent past even before I was first diagnosed with head and neck cancer, I had a chilling experience after losing two of my friends to leukamia. I had never thought that I would fall victim, having lived a very healthy lifestyle. After an accident at high school, I developed some kind of small swelling around my neck, which prompted my parents to take me to get checked. I cannot thank them enough for not letting the situation escalate and the early diagnosis in deed proved I had stage 2 cancer and I started treatment later on. My platform will focus on encouraging the society as a whole to support and encourage people to go for regular check ups just to ensure they are in perfect health. Cancer does not discriminate against race, sex, tribe, social class, education background or even lifestyles.
